Weston CPC Approves Town Meeting Report, Debates Dog Park Process Gaps

WESTON — March 23, 2026 — Weston's Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved its annual warrant report and debated process reforms following a contested first proposal cycle. Chair Glenn Butcher led discussion at the March 23 hybrid meeting on the dog park feasibility proposal, which reached a public hearing without a formal town sponsor, prompting members including Gwen King and Nathalie Thompson to call for longer review cycles and clearer sponsorship requirements before applicants appear before the committee. The committee also reviewed a draft town meeting presentation disclosing that Weston has collected $46.3 million in local property surcharges and $18 million in state matching funds since joining the CPA program in 2000, leaving a current fund balance of $7.3 million; after member pushback, Butcher agreed to strip a line committing the committee to "avoid any further debt," with Alan Day citing potential future workforce housing needs as a reason not to foreclose that option. All three votes — approving regular meeting minutes, public hearing minutes, and the warrant report — passed 7-0.
