Weston School Committee Reelects Selvig Chair, Receives NEASC Accreditation Findings

WESTON — May 11, 2026 — Weston School Committee unanimously reelected Daina Selvig as Chair and Tiao Xie as Vice Chair at its May 11 reorganization meeting. All seven open-session votes passed 5-0, including subcommittee assignments for 2026-27 that name Kenneth Newberg as chair of the Building Project Subcommittee and authorize the Chair to sign warrants with the Vice Chair as backup. Weston High School Principal Sue Bairstow and Assistant Principal Todd Whitten presented findings from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation process, telling the committee that the visiting team found no surprises: "We weren't surprised by anything — we could have written that at the beginning." NEASC identified three 10-year priority areas — clarifying the graduate profile, documenting curriculum at a week-to-week level, and addressing facility limitations including a lack of breakout and confidential spaces — all of which intersect with the ongoing high school building project and district strategic plan. Member Kenneth Newberg flagged a finding that some departments lack adequate funding for consumables, pledging to support classroom resource needs, and the committee requested periodic progress updates from high school leadership.
