Weston Select Board Approves DPW Camera Pilot, Weighs Leaf Blower Bylaw

WESTON — June 10, 2026 — Weston Select Board approves intersection camera pilot and weighs potential leaf blower noise bylaw. At its June 9, 2026 meeting, the board unanimously authorized a Department of Public Works pilot program using traffic-counting cameras at town intersections to measure vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian volumes — distinct from police license plate readers, which were not acted upon. A group of residents organized through the Sustainability Committee presented a proposal to restrict gas-powered landscaping equipment noise, focused primarily on leaf blowers, with Town Manager Leon Goeman noting "there is a consideration of bringing something forward and maybe a bylaw change to the town meeting in the fall." The board also unanimously finalized its list of projects and priorities for 2026 to 2027 and appointed Emily Baker and Keith Hart as trustees of the Merriam Fund, replacing outgoing trustees Mary Shaw and Chris Palmer. Discussion of amendments to the town manager's performance evaluation form was deferred to the next meeting.
