Weston Traffic Panel Recommends Cases Corner Crosswalk in 5-1 Vote

WESTON — February 11, 2026 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee votes 5-1 to recommend a pedestrian crosswalk at Cases Corner near the Land Sake driveway. Committee Chair Dan Patnaude led the February 11 Zoom meeting, where members debated five possible crossing locations studied or proposed by consulting firm VHB before settling on an orange-marked alignment that offers a pedestrian refuge island between traffic lanes. Member Jay Doyle argued the orange location "gives a pedestrian a place of refuge when they're crossing," while member Rebecca Mercuri, who cast the lone dissenting vote, favored a blue alignment closer to the recreation building driveway; DPW Director Jason Lavoie said the recommendation now goes to the Select Board, which will review full designs and cost estimates before deciding. The committee also voted unanimously to support a Conservation Commission plan to build six to eight parking spaces on town land near Cat Rock on Indian Hill Road and to write a letter of support to the Select Board, while tabling until March 11 a vote on endorsing the town's draft Open Space and Recreation Plan after member Richard Flynn raised safety objections to its call for a rail-with-trail feasibility study along the active MBTA Fitchburg line.
