Weston voters approve $3.1 million to design new fire station off Wellesley Street
WESTON — May 4, 2026 — Weston town meeting backs $3.1 million for new fire station design, 204-72. Select Board member Tom Palmer told voters the recommended station at "Field 13" near Wellesley Street would cost $34 million to $38 million to build, against a $67 million estimate to rebuild both existing 1914 and 1960s-era stations; resident Justine Richards said current facilities lack "separate sleeping quarters or even adequate restrooms" for female firefighters. Voters also approved the fiscal 2027 operating budget 228-23, including a $51,361,325 school budget that outgoing School Committee Chair Adam Newman said grows 3.9 percent. Finance Committee Chair Bharat Venkatraman warned that capital projects could drive a 78 percent cumulative tax increase over the next decade. Community Preservation appropriations included $1 million for two new Brook School Apartments units, $400,000 toward Field 1 lights and $300,000 to replant the town green.
