Weston reviews Route 30 shared use path design, flags signal removal concerns
WESTON — March 31, 2026 — Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee pressed engineering consultants on traffic signal removals and steep path grades during a full review of the Route 30 shared use path's 75% design. At the March 31 meeting, Howard Stein Hudson representatives Bridget Myers and Michaela Siegert presented plans for a 10-foot shared use path running the length of Route 30 from the Natick town line to the Route 128/Mass Pike interchange, with the path predominantly on the south side of the road. Committee members Richard Flynn and Rich Gula challenged the removal of proposed signals at Winter and Oak Streets, with Flynn demanding to know "what criteria used you folks, as experts, to recommend them" — Myers confirmed the original 2018 warrant analysis supported signals but that public opposition led to their removal in favor of geometric improvements and rectangular rapid flashing beacons. Resident Linda Nelson flagged a 6.58 percent grade between profiles 87 and 89 on the path, calling it dangerously steep for inexperienced cyclists who are the design's target population. Two public meetings are scheduled for May 12 and 14 at the police station training room, with a regular committee meeting set for April 16.
