Weston School Committee approves assistant superintendent search, sets April deadline

WESTON — March 2, 2026 — Weston School Committee unanimously approves assistant superintendent hiring plan and hears sweeping anti-hate initiative. The committee voted 5-0 Monday to accept a search timeline for the next Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, with finalists expected by April 2 and a final hire recommendation to come April 27, as Superintendent Dr. Karen Zaleski said candidates will be drawn from assistant superintendents, building principals, and department heads across the state. Zaleski also presented a revised FY27 budget holding the lowest-increase scenario at 3.95 percent after mid-year savings in revolving funds, retirement, and a new copier contract allowed the team to add a second high school teacher FTE without raising the bottom-line ask; the committee votes on a recommended budget March 10. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kimo Carter outlined a nine-initiative Anti-Hate Action Plan built around four strategic pillars — curriculum, professional learning, school culture, and systems — developed with the BIDE committee and Administrative Council after a series of hate incidents at the middle and high school last fall, though the plan must still be integrated into the district's three-to-five-year strategic plan before full implementation. The consent agenda included unanimous ratification of memoranda of agreement with the WEA, WAPA, and WEAAA, and acceptance of a $2,800 donation to Weston Middle School in honor of Alexander Nguyen.
